Extraordinary Women: Artists and Philanthropists at NOMA

Besides the work of women artists, women’s contributions to the largest collection of art in the city are located in the many paintings, sculptures, and other items donated to the museum, in the organization and care of the collections, and in administration of the museum. A mobile app, available to museum-goers, will be made available for visitors to use and learn about these women.

The New Orleans Museum of Art is delighted to participate as a Nola4Women partner.  As a partner organization, NOMA will present the following: 

Panel Discussion: Extraordinary Women: Artists & Philanthropists at NOMA, 2018

Susan M. Taylor, NOMA Executive Director, will moderate this lively panel discussion featuring several of the women artists and philanthropists who have been instrumental in building NOMA's collection over the years. List of panelists coming soon.

NOMA's Mobile Guide helps visitors explore works of art from the museum’s collection. The guide is interactive and can be accessed with any smartphone device.

The NOMA Mobile Guide includes a variety of curated pathways through the museum, including The Extraordinary Women Tour, launching in 2018. This tour features works by the women artists and philanthropists who helped build NOMA's collection. Additional tours include:

  • The Highlights Tour featuring must-see works from the permanent collection
  • The Global Treasures Tour showcasing NOMA’s international art collection
  • The Sculpture Garden Tour journeying through the Sydney and Walda Bestoff Sculpture Garden
  • Animals in Art for Families
  • Poets for Art

The NOMA Mobile Guide also allows guests to plan their visit to the museum, learn about upcoming events, and share their NOMA experience through social media. Visitors can access the guide by visiting bit.ly/nomaguide or scan QR code at the admissions desk.

Professional Development workshop for Educators: Extraordinary Women: Artists, Activists, and Philanthropists

This two-day workshop for educators was held in partnership with The Historic New Orleans Collection. Participants explored the important roles women have played in the creation, acquisition, and management of the works of art in the collections of the New Orleans Museum of Art and The Historic New Orleans Collection, as well as the lasting contributions they have made to the city of New Orleans.
