Teachers and Leaders: Photographs of Women in New Orleans

Xavier University Library

This exhibition explored the history of diverse women who made the history of New Orleans. Favorites were Saint Katharine Drexel, S.B.S., an American heiress, philanthropist, religious sister, educator, and foundress of Xavier University, and Mother Catherine Seals, a spiritualist who led a following of some 10,000 people in the Church of the Innocent Blood in the lower Ninth Ward. Xavier University also highlighted the work of its own teachers, especially their work in making the school a leader in science education.
